Every aviculturist diary has to be really busy at the first quarter of this year. The event which begins the season of international avicultural conventions – ASI convention (read more) – is starting tomorrow. Most of speakers have already announced departure from their home countries and are heading to Bangalore. In March, two avicultural conventions will take place in Spain and Czech Republic.

If you are not able to visit ASI convention in India then you have another chance to attend AVIORNIS congress where three of speakers – Tony Silva, Simon Degenhard and Rafael Zamora are going to have their lectures again . Besides them, there are also other international guests speaking. The event takes place on March 12th and 13th in O Rosal (Pontevedra) which is located 100km north of Porto.
Miguel Ángel Goméz Garza is a well known avian vet from Mexiko who has published a new book about Mexican parrots, recently. It’s supposed that Miguel will talk about his experience with treatment of confiscated animals, conservation projects and also parrot breeding. He was the first one who bred many rare species in the world like the Rhynchopsitta terrisi or Aratinga brevipes.

It’s not necessary to introduce Tony Silva to our readers as he has written many articles for this website. Tony worked as a bird curator in Loro Parque between years 1989 and 1992. He also manages his private collection in Florida and therefore will talk about lifelong experience with parrot breeding.
Rafael Zamora is a long-term research worker in Loro Parque who will have a lecture on parrot breeding and conservation.

An editor-in-chief of Australian Aviary Life is going to attend the Spanish convention together with Daniel Gowland, the owner and director of PRIAM which is a private parrot ZOO in Australia. Simon is a well-known fan of lories and softbills. Therefore we expect him to talk about one of these topics. He is also a close friend to Martin Guth from Germany and helps ACTP with promoting of their conservation projects.

Daniel Gowland and his PRIAM plays an important role in conservation of Orange-bellied Parrots. In collaboration with ACTP, he also realized the first legal export of Glossy Cockatoo from Australia. It was one of a very few imports which have been made in the last 50 years.
Another speaker – Anil Garg, president of Avian Society of India will talk about Indian aviculture and his experience with breeding of cockatoos. We can’t also forget about the Spanish speaker Inaki Hernandez.
