Man charged with parrot smuggling in Denmark

Danish tax agency SKAT and the nature agency Naturstyrelsen informed about the largest case of bird smuggling in Denmark. This news was published on on-line newspaper The Copenhagen Post yesterday.

Authorities related to nature conservation got a denouncement from anonymous person and consequently decided to arrest the  smuggler. Man was charged with smuggling of 43 endangered parrots and eggs. 30 parrots, 11 eggs and some of his profits (231 000 kroner (=31 000 euro)) were confiscated during the house search and he also has to pay a fine 650 000 kroner (=87 000 euro).

According to available information there are Yellow-billed amazon (Amazona collaria), Eclectus parrot (Eclectus roratus) and Sun conure (Aratinga solstitialis) included in the list of confiscated species.

The charged person was selling his birds on websites www.parrot4sale.com and www.fuglemarkedet.dk.
