The number of breeders who can afford buying Hyacinth Macaws increased rapidly in the last three years. Twenty five individuals have been registered just in the year 2015. So in total there are at least 138 Hyacinth Macaws in the Czech Republic now. However, this number probably doesn’t include all birds kept in the country because the central registry was established in 2004. We assume that total number will be higher. Mentioned statistics come from the Czech avicultural on-line magazine Ararauna.cz which obtained it from Czech Ministry of Environment.

What species has increased in number most significantly during the last year? It was the Double Yellow-headed Amazon. In 2015, 57 birds of this species was registered so now there are 844 individuals in the country. Similarly, Golden Conure became popular in the Czech Republic in the last couple of years.

Surprisingly, there is a significant increase in number of rare parrot species like the Palm Cockatoo. In 2015, 16 individuals were registered by Ministry of Environment. We should also mention a successful import of one Philippine Cockatoo which is considered to be one of the rarest cockatoo species.

The most common CITES I parrot species is still the Cuban Amazon. Since 2004, 1086 have been registered in the Czech Republic. However, this species didn’t increase in number significantly in the last few years.

The group of Lear’s Macaws kept in Prague ZOO is growing as two new birds were registered recently. Both individuals were confiscated in Switzerland and then transported to Prague.
