As you surely remember, in this spring we brought you an article with statistics of CITES I species kept in the Czech Republic. In that article we asked breeders all over the world to get their national data from local governments. In July, ParrotsDailyNews.com was contacted by the vice-president of BVP (Belgian Parrot Society) Bert van Gils who was so kind to provide us these data. Because of that we can offer to our readers to see statistics of CITES I species kept in Belgium between 2000 and 2013.

In following chart you will not find the total number of kept individuals but just a number of new arrivals to the country (or bred youngers) in that years. So for example you can see that in 2014 there were 111 A. auropalliata imported to Belgium or bred there. An empty cell means zero.

When you compare this data with Czech statistics then numbers are very similar. For example in A.auropalliata there were 90 new individuals registered between 2013 and 2015 in the Czech Republic and in Belgium it was about 50 birds yearly for the last couple of years. The most common CITES I species of Amazona genus is Amazona oratrix. There have been 1071 birds registered between 2000 and 2013. The rarest one is A. pretrei, only two individuals in 2004 were bred or kept in Belgium.

COCKATOOS

It’s quite surprising how many of Moluccan Cockatoos are kept in Belgium, it’s a lot more than in the Czech Republic. The most common are the Goffin’s Cockatoo and the Yellow-crested Cockatoo. The Philippine Cockatoo is the rarest species of the genus just as in the Czech Republic.
